Like Michael Crichton, Ms. Goode is skilled at blending science fiction, science fact and thriller elements. G.E.M. is an exciting first novel by Carol Goode. Her fictional characters are warm and real. Suspense builds rapidly as the original plot transforms from a natural disaster with a short deadline to overcome, to a bigger man-made disaster with an impossible deadline! It felt as though this fictional story could have actually happened. I highly recommend this novel and hope there are more to follow from this gifted writer. If you like mysteries that evolve around scientific facts, you will like this book. If you have ever wondered about what happens to the waste from nuclear power plants, G.E.M. will keep you interested until the last page. And when finished reading, you will be asking if all this is possible and what can actually be done with these molecules in today's world. So sit back and enjoy the read. Once involved in the plot you won't be able to put it down until you reach the end.
This is a great scientific base novel which had me guessing the entire time. In fact it was so interesting that I could not put the book down once I reached page 200. There are plenty of scientific facts that you almost feel that this is a how to text book. The story flows and has several twists which keep you guessing. This would be a great book club suggestion, especially if you like to research the information provided in the story. I can personally verify a lot of the information referenced in the novel when it comes to security procedures. I highly recommend this book.
This book is a must read. The author Carol Goode does an excellent job with G.E.M. It is a very intriguing techno-thriller and it keeps you wanting to read more.
G.E.M. brings to life the next generation of technology issues and solutions to modern day disasters / issues. Ms. Goode easily weaves futurist bio-technology & science with a cast of characters that keep you bound to this intriguing adventure in dealing with nuclear disaster.
This is a story that will keep you reading . This author takes technology that few of us can understand and makes you feel like you are a part of it. In todays world , this is definitely a topic you feel could hit close to us all. G.E.M. kept my interest from beginning to end. I hope this is just the beginning from Ms. Goode. Definitely , I will be watching for more.
The story is engaging and suspenseful . . . no end of surprises! And the author obviously has a lot of knowledge about the scientific aspects as well as the whole Richland site and community, which adds to the texture and richness of the story. I definitely recommend it!
I really enjoyed this book, it is well written and is an easy read. The author has made a highly technical subject easy to understand. It has a great story line and keeps you in suspense to the end. I hope for many more from this new author.
